One day, a couple years ago, I decided to write a little story for my then four-year-old daughter who was about to start her first day of school. I wanted her to be both prepared and excited about what was to come. I also wanted her to know that whatever she was feeling–be it excitement, hesitation, or fear–was completely normal. As I quickly thought out the plot and started writing the words to this little story, I started to feel more excited about it than she did. It was in that moment that I first discovered my love of storytelling. Although I have always loved reading, and spent most of my childhood with my nose in a book, and went so far as to major in English Language and Literature at university, it never once occurred to me that I would one day be one of those people on the other side; the ones that not only read the stories, but also bring them to life.
So here I am, a couple years later with not only the little story of ‘Tala’s First Day of School’, but an exciting new adventure series as well! What started out as another little story for my eldest daughter, Safa, turned into a full-blown four part adventure novel! Two years in the making, and several rewrites and edits later, ‘Book 1’ of four is now almost ready to be published, and ‘Book 2’ is already cooking! These novels are perfect for kids aged 9-13, and will take them into a world filled with excitement and wonder, while at the same time reminding them to value themselves. My only hope is that those who get their hands on my stories will love reading them as much as I love writing them. If someone had told that young girl with her nose in a book that one day she would be writing one of her own, she would have laughed. But now, all I can say is that this is truly an exciting journey, and it’s only the beginning!
